Opening Prayer: Holy One, we place ourselves, as part of your ever-evolving creation, in your vast embrace.  Hold us as we unfold, as we become, as we fully inhabit our true selves.  Help us to be who we are meant to be, to take our place among the blessed in your kin-dom.

Reading 1: From “Truly Human in a Partially Human World,” by Ilia Delio

We all want the fullness of life but often it eludes us. We are constantly distracted by the false self, to use Thomas Merton’s term, the self that I think I need to be, and seldom committed to the true self, that self that is known by God alone, in whom my freedom lies.

Reading 2:

Whatever the origin is for you, that deep core, your actual center of gravity– the self that God is in relationship with and that God loves is your actual self. God is not waiting for you to become more spiritual to love you, or more successful to love you, or to get better at yoga to love you. The universe, God, the spirit loves your actual self.

Intentions:  For What We Become

We turn to the Holy One and ask for the courage to let go of the selves we think we are expected to be and to allow ourselves to evolve into the selves we were created to be.

Response:  We pray for courage.

We turn to the Holy One and ask for the understanding to accept the evolving world around us as it groans in the birth pangs of its own becoming.

Response:  We pray for understanding.

We turn to the Holy One and ask for the wisdom to discern well the authentic path we are called to walk, so that we may arrive into the fullness of being.

Response:  We pray for wisdom.

Holy One, we ask above all for love.  Love of this earth and all its people and creatures, everything that has sprung from the infinite source of love that is you, everything that yearns to become one in unity with you and with all.

Response:  We pray for love.

Please add any intentions you would like to bring to the community at this time.

Closing Prayer:

Let us learn from the beautiful flowers blooming all around us.  Like them, let us reach down and down, into the wisdom of the Earth and all who have dwelt on it.  At the same time let us reach up and up, out and out, into what dwells beyond the known.  And like a field of summer flowers let us become exactly who we were born to be.

Closing Song:  Become What We Love (St. Clare Prayer) by Carmen Boyle
