The Message of a New Creation

Twentieth century theologian Paul Tillich wrote, Christianity is the message of the new creation, the new being, a new reality which appeared with Jesus of Nazareth … more than a religion; it is the message of a new creation. To live in the Risen Christ is not to be dogmatic, entrenched in static beliefs or focused on sin. It is simply to express by one’s life that you have seen something new, and you want to tell others what you have heard, that in the midst of the old creation there is a new creation.

The Messenger
My work is loving the world.
Here the sunflowers, there the hummingbird -
equal seekers of sweetness.
Here the quickening yeast; there the blue plums.
Here the clam deep in the speckled sand.
Are my boots old? Is my coat torn?
Am I no longer young and still not half-perfect?
Let me keep my mind on what matters,
which is my work,
which is mostly standing still and learning to be astonished.
The phoebe, the delphinium, the hyacinth,
The sheep in the pasture, and the pasture.
Which is mostly rejoicing, since all ingredients are here,
Which is gratitude, to be given a mind and a heart
and these body-clothes,
a mouth with which to give shouts of joy
to the moth and the wren, to the sleepy dug-up clam,
telling them all, over and over,
how it is …
that we live forever.

A Reading from 2 Corinthians 4: 15-17
All this is for your benefit, so that the grace that is reaching more and more people may cause thanksgiving to overflow. Therefore, we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.
Intentions
In the Jesus way, we offer our humble service to re-energize the Good News for a NEW direction of justice and freedom.
In the name of love, may our empowered legacy of work create a renewed reality built on acts of compassion.
In the name of our Creator God, we bow in gratitude for the gifts bestowed upon us all as spring reveals the eternal mystery of life.
