What If We Get It Right?

Opening Peace Chant: Singing Bowl

Divine and loving energy, bring me peace within my body, mind and soul/ Breath in and out long slow breaths.

Divine and loving energy, bring peace to those near me tonight and those not so near in my family, friends and neighbors/ Breath in and out long slow breaths.

Divine and loving energy, bring peace to this country and those beings in countries we do not call home/ Breath in and out long slow breaths.

Divine and loving energy, bring peace to all creatures on this planet earth/ Breath in and out long slow breaths.

Reading by Ayisha Siddiqa

What if the future is soft and revolution is so kind

that there is no end to us in sight?

Whole cities breathe and bad luck is bested by a promise to the leaves.

To withstand your own end is difficult.

Anger against injustice make the voice grow harsh yet.

The future frolics about, promised to no one, as is her right.

But if she leaves without us, the silence that will follow

will be an unspeakable nothing.

What if we convince her to stay?

How rare and beautiful it is that we exist.

What if we stun existence one more time?

When I wake up, get out of bed, my seven-year-old cousin

with her ruptured belly tags along.

Then follow my grandmother, aunts, my cousins, and

the violent shape of their drinking water.

The earth remembers everything,

our bodies are the color of the earth and we are nobodies.

Been born from so many apocalypses, what’s one more?

Love is till the only revenge. It grows each time the earth is set on fire.

But for what it’s worth, I’d do this again.

Gamble on humanity one hundred times over.

Commit to life unto life, as the trees fall and take us with them.

I’d follow love into extinction.

Second Reading – Quotes

“We have to act as if it were possible to radically change the world. And you have to do it all the time.” Angela Davis

“My mission in life is to not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do wo with some passion, some compassion, some humor and some style”. Maya Angelou

“What we pay attention to grow, so I’m thinking about how we grow what we are all imagining and creating into something large enough and solid enough that it becomes a tipping point”. adrienne maree brown

“Where do we go from here? Chaos or community?” Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

“The time has come for us to re-imagine everything … to become the new kind of people that are needed at such as huge period of transition. We must transform ourselves to transform the world.” Grace Lee Boggs

“The disciples then came to Jesus and asked, ‘Why couldn’t we expel the demon?’ Jesus answered, ‘Because you have so little faith, The truth is, if you have even as much faith as the tiny mustard seed, you can be able to say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move, nothing will be impossible for you.” Jesus

Affirmations and Intentions:

May we redefine home. Let it be so.

May climate mitigation and adaptation be just. Let it be so.

May extreme weather not mean catastrophe. Let it be so.

May we develop new traditions for this new era. Let it be so.

May we prize interdependence over independence. Let it be so.

May we take care of one another. Let it be so.

Silence to add your own intentions.

Closing Prayer: “O love of God, without which life has no meaning, and no harbor, leave us not alone with our little lives, our broken dreams, our insistent problems, but involve our spirit with the utility, that we may be renewed in all the ways of our lives, that we may turn from this place, this day with all that is within us, washed and purified and refreshed. We seek this with simplicity of heart, and with quiet faith and confidence that thou would not deny thy love to thy children.” Howard Thurman

You've got the words to change a nation

But you're biting your tongue

You've spent a life time stuck in silence

Afraid you'll say something wrong

If no one ever hears it how we gonna learn your song?

So come, on come on

Come on, come on

You've got a heart as loud as lions

So why let your voice be tamed?

Baby we're a little different

There's no need to be ashamed

You've got the light to fight the shadows

So stop hiding it away

Come on, Come on

I wanna sing, I wanna shout

I wanna scream till the words dry out

So put it in all of the papers,

I'm not afraid

They can read all about it

Read all about it oh

Oh-oh-oh

Oh-oh-oh

Oh-oh-oh

Oh-oh-oh

Oh-oh-oh

Oh-oh-oh

At night we're waking up the neighbours

While we sing away the blues

Making sure that we remember yeah

Cause we all matter too

If the truth has been forbidden

Then we're breaking all the rules

So come on, come on

Come on, come on,

Let's get the tv and the radio

To play our tune again

It's 'bout time we got some airplay of our version of events

There's no need to be afraid

I will sing with you my friend

Come on, come on

I wanna sing, I wanna shout

I wanna scream till the words dry out

So put it in all of the papers,

I'm not afraid

They can read all about it

Read all about it oh

Oh-oh-oh

Oh-oh-oh

Oh-oh-oh

Oh-oh-oh

Oh-oh-oh

Oh-oh-oh

Yeah we're all wonderful, wonderful people

So when did we all get so fearful?

Now we're finally finding our voices

So take a chance, come help me sing this

Yeah we're all wonderful, wonderful people

So when did we all get so fearful?

And now we're finally finding our voices

So take a chance, come help me sing this

I wanna sing, I wanna shout

I wanna scream till the words dry out

So put it in all of the papers,

I'm not afraid

They can read all about it

Read all about it oh

Oh-oh-oh

Oh-oh-oh

Oh-oh-oh

Oh-oh-oh

Oh-oh-oh

Oh-oh-oh

I wanna sing, I wanna shout

I wanna scream till the words dry out

So put it in all of the papers,

I'm not afraid

They can read all about it

Read all about it oh
