Welcome to our mid-week community prayer. The theme tonight is LOVE, a love that endures. Our scriptures are filled with reminders of true love. The opening song by Sara Thomsen was inspired by the book of Ruth, a story of love and friendship. May we love and support each other as we walk together as friends and companions on this life’s journey.

Wherever You Go

Lyrics

Wherever you go, we will go
Whoever you know, we will know
The Holy Ground where we stand
Is a hand, to a hand, to a hand

Wherever we go, you will go
Whoever we know, you will know
We’ll laugh and we’ll cry, and rejoice

A voice and a voice and a voice
Lift you on wings of a song
Hold you and carry you along
Wherever you go, we will go

Wherever you go
I give you my heart
One Holy Breath we are breathing
In our arriving and leaving
One Voice that carries our song
On and on and on
Wherever I go…

The first reading is a love song from our ancient ancestors adapted by Nan Merrill

Psalm 100

Sing, a joyful noise to the Beloved

all peoples of the Earth!

Serve Love with a glad heart!

Join hands in the great

Dance of Life!

Know that the Beloved of your heart

is the Divine Presence!

Love created us, and we belong to

the Most High;

We are born to be loving expressions

of the Creator’s divine plan.

Open the gates of your heart

with gratitude

and enter Love's court with praise.

Give thanks to the beloved,

bless Love’s holy name.

For Love is of God,

and lives in your heart, forever,

with faith and truth, and joy

now, and in all that is to come, alleluia.

Amen

The second reading is from Valerie Kaur and the Revolutionary Love Project

Love is more than a rush of feeling. Love is sweet labor: fierce, demanding, imperfect, and life giving – a choice we make again and again.

Love is not any one emotion. Love is all our emotions: Joy is the gift of love. Grief is the price of love. Anger is what we harness to protect that which we love. And when we think we have reached our limit, wonder is the act that returns us to love.

Revolutionary Love is the choice to labor for others, for opponents, and for ourselves — to transform the world around us, and within us.

Revolutionary love is when we are brave enough to see no stranger, to look at anyone and  say: “You are a part of me I do not yet know.”

Love calls us to weep when bodies are outcast, broken or destroyed. Love calls us to speak even when our voice trembles, and stand even when hate spins out of control. Love makes us brave.

In this era of enormous rage, when fires burn all around us, Revolutionary Love is the call of our times. And we can move through the world—and each day of our lives—with love as our compass.

Prayers of the Community

Reader 1: Let us pray for ourselves and the world.

Holy One, enliven us for your work of love in our world.

That we may be salt of the earth and light to the world.

Breathe fresh life into your people.

Give us power to reveal You in our daily lives.

Reader 2: Creator of all, lead us and all people into the ways of

justice and peace that we may respect one another in freedom and truth.

Awaken in us a sense of wonder for the earth and all that is in it.

Teach us to care creatively for our fragile world.

Reader 1: God of truth, inspire with Your wisdom those whose decisions affect the lives of others so that all may act with integrity and courage.

Give grace to all whose lives are linked with ours.

May we serve You and love as You love us.

Reader 2: We seek the grace of healing at the heart of the brokenness around us and in the hidden depths of our own souls.

And we pray for…(please add your intentions here)

The Closing benediction is from the Black Rock Prayer Book

The world now is too dangerous
and too beautiful for anything but love.
May your eyes be so blessed

that you see God in everyone.
Your ears, so you hear the cry of the poor.

May your hands be so blessed
that everything you touch is a sacrament.
Your lips, so you speak nothing

but the truth with love.

May your feet be so blessed you run
to those who need you.
And may your heart be so opened,
so set on fire, that your love,
your love, changes everything.

Closing Song:  Ubi Caritas-Taize
