Night Prayer
Making Straight the Path, In Preparation for the Coming of Jesus.
The Sign of Blessing: In the name of Peace, and Love and Grace. Amen.
Leader: God, Come to my assistance.
Participants: Holy One, Make haste to help me.
All: Glory and Joy be to Peace and Love and Grace. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
Prayer of Jesus. (Miriam Therese Winter)
All: Oh Holy One, Who is within, around and among us.
We celebrate your many names.
Your Wisdom come. Your will be done, Unfolding from the depths within us.
Each day you give us all that we need.
You remind us of our limits, and we let go.
You support us in our power, and we act with courage.
For you are the dwelling place within us,
The empowerment around us,
And the celebration among us,
Now and forever. AMEN.
A reading from the Book of Isiah,
A voice cries out:
In the desert prepare the way of the LORD!
Make straight in the wasteland a highway for our God!
Every valley shall be filled in,
every mountain and hill shall be made low;
the rugged land shall be made a plain,
the rough country, a broad valley.
Then the glory of the LORD shall be revealed,
and all people shall see it together;
for the mouth of the LORD has spoken.

The Ways of the Holy One are beyond our understanding.
The prophet Isaiah is:
“A voice of one crying out in the desert:
‘Prepare the way of the Lord,
Make straight his paths. (Luke 3:4)
We are the ones now, looking and understanding how the paths can be straightened out. We are the ones looking at the turbulent times of our own experiences here on earth, knowing that we are a spark of the Holy One. Each one of us is here in this space of time and place right now, wondering if we can make a difference.
Jesus came, and made a difference by his presence, his awareness and his witness. He showed us The Way. We just need to believe and Know, even is this “Cloud of Unknowing”, that our spiritual confidence does make a difference. You make a difference.
As we continue in our time of Advent and Quiet Waiting, Let us be a Light in the darkness, welcoming the Star of the East.
Silence in contemplation of the word.

People Look East The time is near
Of the crowning of the year.
Make your house fair as you are able
Trim the hearth and set the table
People look east and sing today:
Love the Guest is on the Way.
Furrows, be glad. Though earth is bare.
One more seed is planted there.
Give up your strength the seed to nourish.
That in course the flow’r may flourish.
People look east and sing today:
Love the Rose is on the way.
Stars, keep the watch.
When night is dim
One more light the bowl shall brim.
Shining beyond the frosty weather.
Bright as the sun and moon together.
People look east and sing today:
Love the Star is on the Way.

May the all-powerful Holy One grant us a restful night and a peaceful death.
