Welcome to our Moment of Oneness. Tonight, we focus our minds and hearts on all of our brothers and sisters in countries at war.

Opening Prayer: Gracious and Loving Spirit, We pray for a world where empathy overcomes apathy, where justice triumphs over oppression, and where peace prevails over conflict.

May we embody compassion, seek justice, and serve as instruments of peace in our world. May we be ever attentive to this calling, transforming our prayers into deeds that reflect Your boundless love.

Empower us to be agents of this change, guided by Your wisdom and grace. Amen.

“Prayer for World Peace” by Joan Chittister

Great God, save us from our desire to hurt as we have been hurt,

to punish as we have been punished,

to terrorize as we have been terrorized.

Give us the strength it takes

to listen rather than to judge,

to trust rather than to fear,

to try again and again

to make peace even when peace eludes us.

We ask, O God, for the grace

to be our best selves.

We seek the vision

to be builders of the human community

rather than its destroyers.

We ask for the humility as a people

to understand the fears and hopes of other people.

We ask for the love it takes

to bequeath to the children of the world

more than the failures of our own making.

We ask for the heart it takes

to care for the people

of Afghanistan and Iraq, of Ukraine and Russia

as well as for ourselves.

Give us the depth of soul, O God,

to constrain our might,

to resist the temptations of power,

to refuse to attack the attackable,

to understand

that vengeance begets violence,

and to bring peace — not war —wherever we go.

For you, O God, have been merciful to us.

For you, O God, have been patient with us.

For you. O God, have been gracious to us.

And so, may we be merciful

and patient

and gracious

and trusting

with these others whom you also love. Amen.

Tonight, we remember and pray for:

  • Ukraine, where the ongoing war with Russia continues to claim lives and displace communities.
  • Palestine and Israel, entangled in a devastating conflict, with Gaza enduring severe humanitarian crises.
  • Myanmar, where civil war has led to widespread suffering and displacement.
  • Sudan, gripped by civil war, causing immense hardship and instability.
  • Ethiopia, particularly the Amhara region, facing internal conflict and humanitarian challenges.
  • Nigeria, Burkina Faso, and Mali, where insurgencies threaten peace and security.
  • Mexico, struggling with violence related to drug wars, impacting countless lives
Syria, still affected by ongoing conflict and its aftermath.
Democratic Republic of the Congo, where conflict has intensified, leading to significant displacement and suffering.
Yemen, enduring a prolonged humanitarian crisis amid conflict.
Haiti, facing turmoil and violence that disrupt daily life and governance.
Pakistan, experiencing internal strife and security challenges.
Somalia, grappling with ongoing conflict and its repercussions.
Afghanistan, where decades of conflict continue to affect the population.
Iran and Israel, engaged in hostilities that threaten regional stability.
North and South Korea, where tensions risk escalating into open conflict.

Closing Prayer: Holy One, for every child who sleeps to the sound of gunfire, every parent who grieves a lost child, and every community shattered by violence, we pray for a peaceful world.

Inspire leaders with wisdom and compassion to pursue peace over power, dialogue over destruction. Strengthen peacemakers and protect the innocent.

May Your Spirit move through these lands, healing wounds, rebuilding communities, and restoring hope.

We commit ourselves to be instruments of Your peace, advocating for justice. and standing in solidarity with those who suffer.

Amen.
