Opening Prayer

Holy One, my Beloved, 40 days can feel like an awfully long time when you’re in the desert. Remind us that, in time, everything comes to an end. The leaves fall. The snow melts. The cicadas rest. Seasons come and seasons go. When things are going haywire, give me the courage to count the days. Slowly but surely, this too shall pass.

You who gathers us in, it is so comforting for us to imagine you scooping up humanity under your wing. We seek the faith to feel that in our own lives—to trust and see that you are always gathering us in. Amen.

First Reading: Full to the Brim Under God’s Wing (adapted)

Come Rain or Shine

“I will keep on.”

That’s what I heard my Beloved say.

I will keep on

driving out demons

and healing people,

speaking the truth

and loving endlessly,

searching for the lost sheep

and crying for the brokenhearted,

feeding the hungry

and welcoming the outcast.

“I will keep on.”

That’s what my Beloved said,

Right after saying my name,

Right after calling me beloved,

Right after welcoming me home

and saving me a seat.

And I knew,

there was no stopping my beloved.

I was under my beloved’s wing.

Come rain or come shine,

today and tomorrow,

this love keeps on.

Prayers for the Community

We bring to the table:

All of creation. May we take care of all that you have given us and may we take care of each other with loving kindness.

All those in our various communities longing for justice, love, and beloved community.

All those gathered here, for our community, and for all of us on earth.

All those we call family- for those struggling within their relationships, vocation, and health issues.

All those suffering from mental illness, struggling to hope, those who are grieving, and those who are hospitalized.

All those suffering from all kinds of harm.

All those who seek justice, those experiencing racism, sexism, transphobia, and class based rejection.

All those living in poverty, war and the threat of war - especially our brothers and sisters in the Ukraine.

All those suffering from natural and human created disasters.

All those who are suffering from cancer especially those we have on our prayer list.

All those suffering from Covid and the medical staff caring for them. May they find their strength in you.

All our civil servants, politicians, and activists who seek the best for our nation and world, and for those who lust for power, may you inspire love and compassion.

We pray for these and all the unspoken intentions in our hearts

Closing Prayer

Holy One my Beloved, we know that we are strong, and we are grateful that we are not strong alone. Your love is bold and fierce. You are a protector, longing to shield us from that which grieves. May we be wise enough to lean on you. Amen.
