Moment of Oneness, August 21 - Prepared by Jean Talbot

Opening Prayer: Together we pray out of our sheltering lives and into the Spirit within. We raise up our hopes and fears and our gratitude as we recall that we are never alone, that we are one mystic heart, loving and most beloved of our God. May our prayer reveal the peace and blessedness we share as community so that we may bring it to all whose lives we touch.

Reading: What to Remember When Waking by David Whyte

In that first hardly noticed moment in which you wake, coming back to this life from the other more secret, moveable and frighteningly honest world Where everything began. There is a small opening into the new day, which closes the moment you begin your plans.

Whatever you can plan is too small for you to live.

What you can live wholeheartedly will make plans enough for the vital energy hidden in sleep.

To be human is to become visible

While carrying what is divine as a gift to others.

You are not a troubled guest on this earth,

You are not an accident amidst other accidents. You were invited from another and greater night than the one from which you have just emerged.

Now, looking through the slanting dawn of the morning window toward the presence of everything that can be.

What urgency calls you to love?

What waits in the seed of you to grow and spread against

A future sky?

SILENT REFLECTION

Petitions:

READER: Abba God, awaken us to how we can allow the day to remain a spacious blessing when lived in your spirit.

ALL: Breathe on Us, Holy Spirit of Love

READER: Compassionate One— we worry for our loved ones and for those who serve the public during these turbulent days. We trust Your wisdom is always with them, guiding them through the uncertainty. We resolve to support them and each other–some of us by sheltering and praying, others by acting however we can and all of us by reaching out with care and empathy.

ALL: Breathe on us Holy Spirit of Love.

READER: Holy One–We know that you have placed your deep compassion within us. We ask for the strength to reach out with hearts, not arms, words, not hands to all those suffering. For this we pray.

ALL: Hold us in your compassion.

READER: For Our Upper Room Community:- Help us to LET GO–The death of Christ

LET BE-The risen Christ

LET COME-The spirit of Christ

(taken from Brian McLaren’s” WE Make The Road—”)

ALL: Hold Us in Your Love, Wisdom and Compassion

Closing prayer:

Oh Living One—We have reached out to you in prayer tonight and we know that you are with us. Bless us this night with peace of heart, calm of soul, healing of body and spirit. Surround us in sleep with your quiet darkness and rise with us in the light of a new day. We ask this in union with our brother Jesus, who shows us how to live your life of love.

ALL: Amen
