Tonight we gather on the most somber of nights on the Christian calendar. Good Friday, the day when Jesus, condemned for speaking truth to power, standing in solidarity with those oppressed and discriminated against, and questioning the civil and religious authorities of his day, was crucified.  A horrific means of death, brutally used by the Romans to curtail any chance of rebellion by those they ruled over.  We will use the Stations of the Cross as our way of remembering the death of Jesus, while also recognizing how oppression and discrimination continue today.  It is a reminder that we, as followers of Jesus, are called to speak out and stand up against the powers in today’s world that bring death in many forms, literally, figuratively, psychologically to many of our sisters and brother throughout the world.
